Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM or SOFTWARE
What if an error message "Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ config \ system or software" – how fix your PC?
If you receive one of the following errors when trying to start or during the connection phase, you're probably a corruption of the record:
- Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ config \ SYSTEM
- Windows XP can not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ config \ SOFTWARE
- Stop: c0000218 (Failure of a log file) The registry can not load the hive (file): \ SystemRoot \ System32 \ Config \ SOFTWARE or its log or alternate System error: Lsass.exe
- When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is incorrect.
Follow these steps to resolve this problem:
(Method A boot – Using the Windows Recovery Console)
- Insert Windows CD into your computer and reboot. When you are prompted to press any key to boot from CD "press any key.
- When the screen appears giving you options for the program installation, repair or exit, press R on the keyboard to enter repair mode.
- In the next screen, select the Windows installation that you want to work. For most people, there will be an option.
- When you are prompted to enter your administrator password and press Enter on the keyboard.
When you get the command prompt, type "cd repair "(Who should be" c: \ windows \ repair ") to enter the backup directory that stores registry.
(Boot Method B – Using makeover boot CD)
