A \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ config \ system error?

I know this is a very common question, but I have the same problem. My computer is a Windows Toshiba XP Home Edition. I have the disc but the computer will not start. I read the script change the boot sequence, but I can not find where you are. I looked at F8 and tried all the options but still nothing.
